A line that stays open

The New Brunswick Gambling Information Line is reached at 1-800-461-1234. It gives free, confidential information to people with a gambling problem. People worried about someone else's gambling can call it too. The Department of Health offers the service, and the line is available 24/7. A call at 3 AM gets through just as one in the afternoon does.

Horizon Health Network also lists two other numbers for help. Its Addiction and Mental Health Helpline is 1-866-355-5550. Tele-Care 811 is the second one, and like the information line it runs 24/7.

Keeping yourself away

At Casino New Brunswick, the Responsible Gaming Information Centre (RGIC) is just outside the casino, in the pedway towards the entertainment centre. Its telephone number is 506-861-4699. The centre informs visitors about the casino's Voluntary Self-Exclusion program, whose terms are not published online. Once a player self-excludes, the Rewards Club membership is suspended immediately and the outstanding balance is forfeited.

Grey Rock Casino offers a Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program of its own. Anyone enrolled who still attends forfeits all winnings while enrolled.

ALC.ca has three limits a player can set: weekly deposit, daily session time and daily wager. Take a Break pauses play for 1 to 90 days. Its button sits on all wager screens and in the My Account menu. A long break runs 6, 12, 24 or 36 months, and neither the player nor Atlantic Lottery can reverse it. Coming back after self-exclusion requires completing an education program.
